There is a review problem set posted under the problem set link.  This material covers through the end of chapter 20.  We may not finish all the material before Friday.  The quiz will only cover material that we have reached in class by Wed.  We will not cover the the C-4 pathway in class, or crassulacean acid metabolism, and I will not hold you responsible for it, but I suggest you read the material anyway (because it is interesting).

There is an informational Eli Lilly seminar on Tuesday the 15th for people interested in science careers.  Information can be found here:  seminar link

Reading assignment for week 3.  Please finish Ch 20 and start Ch 21 (21.1-21.4).  We will start Ch 21 next Friday, so it will not be covered on the quiz.  Problems for Ch 20 from the student companion will be listed under problem sets.

Class-  Under problem sets, I have put a list of problems from the the student companion to replace the previous problem assignment for chapter 19.  I think these will be much more useful for learning the material and reviewing for hour exams.  The Friday quiz will still be based on the review problems I posted on Monday.

Please find review problem set 2 under Problem Sets.

Reading assignment for week 2.  Ch 19, please finish.  Ch 20, (20.1 and 20.2)

Homework- Ch 19, please do all the problems.  I will also post a set of review problems on which the Friday quiz will be based.  This will cover the topics we did the last two weeks (enzyme catalysis, phosphatases, and photosynthesis).

Under lecture notes I have put two figures relating to alkaline phosphatase.  Hopefully we will get to this enzyme tomorrow in class (wed the 2nd).  I will distribute the mechanism figure in class as a black and white handout.  (PS- these figures are from Holtz, et al. J. Biol. Chem. 274(13), 8351, 1999)

I have put a review problem set under the problem set link.  This should get you back in the saddle.

Reading Assignment 1 BT&S: 19.1-19.3; Hansen and Raines "Binding Energy and Enzyme Catalysis"  To view this file, click on the brown link. This article is also on reserve in the library.

To prepare for Quiz 1 on Friday (Sept. 4)-  Please review amino acid & peptide structure, carbohydrates, glycolysis, and the Krebs Cycle.  You must know the chemical structures!!
